Job Summary
Reporting to the General Manager – Legal Services & Corporation Secretary, the job holder provides legal advisory services, manages litigation, ensures regulatory compliance, and oversees the preparation and execution of contracts and leases, while safeguarding the Corporation’s title deeds and logbooks.
Job Description
- Structure, negotiate, and execute contracts, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and related documentation.
- Liaise with external bodies such as the Government, EPRA, developers, and financiers on PPAs and approvals.
- Advise the Company on legal and regulatory compliance matters and provide relevant training.
- Review internal policies and procedures for legal implications.
- Maintain custody of the Company seal and legal records.
- Manage litigation and coordinate with external lawyers on court cases.
- Develop mechanisms to investigate, prosecute, and mitigate cases involving Company assets or security breaches.
- Provide legal risk management advice, particularly on contract management.
- Collaborate with departments to address legal risks and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor changes in legislation affecting Company operations and advise management.
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports for the Division and Department.
Person Specifications
For appointments to this position, an Officer must have:
- Experience of at least twelve (12) years in a relevant field, four (4) of which should be at middle management level in a large organization or equivalent.
- Master’s Degree in Law from a recognized Institution.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized Institution.
- Certified Public Secretary (K) in good standing.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate.
- Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
- Leadership course lasting not less than 4 weeks from a recognized institution.
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
