Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assessing patients and clients to establish healthcare needs.
  • Planning and implementing nursing care interventions based on patients’ or clients’ health needs.
  • Providing appropriate healthcare services, including immunization, antenatal care, delivery, and referral of patients and clients as necessary.
  • Evaluating healthcare outcomes for patients and clients and preparing individualized reports.
  • Making appropriate discharge plans for patients.
  • Conducting assessments of school health needs.
  • Planning, implementing interventions, and preparing periodic health reports.
  • Maintaining records on patients’ or clients’ personal and health conditions or care.
  • Ensuring a clean, tidy, and safe clinical environment.
  • Ensuring safe custody of in-patients’ belongings.
  • Conducting home visits, following up discharged patients or clients, and providing continuity of care.
  • Treating minor ailments.

Requirements for Appointment

  • Certificate in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Enrolled Nurse, Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurse, Kenya Enrolled Midwife, Kenya Enrolled Psychiatric Nurse, or Enrolled Nurse/Midwife from a recognized training institution.
  • Enrolment Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
