SHL/HRD/04/09/24: 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To provide efficient and effective cleaning support to the Hospital, including ensuring that the ambiance and general appearance of the building and surroundings are maintained in accordance with the required standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Emptying waste bins or similar receptacles, transporting waste material to designated collection points
  • Sweeping floors with brushes or dust control mops
  • Mopping floors with wet or damp mops
  • Dusting, damp wiping, washing or polishing the furniture, ledges, window sills and external surfaces of shelves and fitments
  • Replenishing consumable items (soap, toilet rolls, and paper towels) in the various points of usage.
  • Cleaning toilets, urinals, hand basins and sinks
  • Using chemical agents as directed by the Human Resource Officer in the discharge of cleaning operation or maintenance procedures
  • Undertake wall washing or inside window pane cleaning to a height no greater than body height plus an arm’s extension from floor level, during periodic cleaning maintenance.
  • Reporting any malfunctioning equipment or items in areas of operation: doors handles, locks, taps, lights, switch etc.
  • Ensure that furniture in offices, meeting rooms and all areas is arranged in the required manner at all times.
  • Ensure adequate supply of toilet accessories such as toilet papers, hand washing soap etc. in all wash rooms throughout the day.
  • Preparing tea and serving staff, clearing and collecting used cups and washing them, keeping the kitchen clean and in order and other related duties.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Certificate of KCSE
  • Ability to read and speak fluently in English and Kiswahili
  • Proven work experience as a cleaner
  • Ability to handle heavy cleaning equipment and machinery
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • High levels of integrity
  • Good interpersonal skills
