Job Purpose Statement

The Senior Cloud Engineer’s role is to design, evaluate, migrate, implement, and support high-end and mid-range IT cloud-hosted systems, system automation, and on-premise infrastructure in line with the Bank’s vision. This includes provisioning highly available server infrastructure for critical server systems and ensuring system availability in line with the bank’s SLAs.

Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)

Cloud Architecture (40%):

  • Build Cloud Principle journeys, strategies, and structures to deliver cloud fluency at scale while applying DevOps principles.
  • Maintain and support high-performance, fault-tolerant, scalable, and distributed cloud and container platforms.
  • Interface with application development teams to ensure applications fit within the cloud infrastructure with scalability, reliability, and security designed and implemented from the onset.
  • Review cloud providers and technologies, defining digital transformation models, policies, and roadmaps.
  • Manage servers, storage, Linux/Unix, Windows, Microsoft Office 365, Web Marshal, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and datacenter requirements as per the business plan and technology, ensuring proper monitoring and administration.
  • Maintain Active Directory, including creating accounts, troubleshooting authentication, configuring domain controllers, managing DNS and DHCP, and implementing group policies.

Cloud/System Configuration/Deployment (30%):

  • Establish and improve team processes and workflows to maximize efficiency and productivity of people and systems.
  • Build and manage cloud container platforms (ECS, EKS, AKS).
  • Lead automation of cloud infrastructure deployments at massive scale to support scaling of digital services.
  • Promote the ‘Open source first’ initiative within the function.
  • Plan CapEx and OpEx within the cloud and container management domain.

Cloud/Systems Support/Patch Management (10%):

  • Ensure security standards are well defined, controlled, and service deployments are managed.

Project Management (10%):

  • Manage projects related to cloud infrastructure, servers, storage, Linux/Unix, Windows, backup, and monitoring.

Business Continuity (10%):

  • Maintain disaster readiness as agreed and ensure regular DR exercises are conducted.

Job Specifications

Academic:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Professional:

  • Professional qualifications in IT (e.g., Azure, AWS, OCI Certification, RHCSA, VCP, ITIL, MCSE, A+, MCITP, MCP).
  • Project Management certification and experience (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).

Desired Work Experience:

  • Competencies in cloud infrastructure (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP, Oracle Cloud).
  • Experience in cloud infrastructure architecture, design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Experience with both private and public cloud infrastructure (e.g., Kubernetes, Azure Arc, Open Computing & Open Shift).
  • Proficiency in using Infrastructure as Code for infrastructure provisioning (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Cloud Formation, ARM).
  • Experience in service provisioning automation, server installation, and configuration.
  • Experience in setting long-term direction, roadmaps, and standards for cloud technical architecture.
  • Managing cloud vendors and driving new cloud technologies.
  • Simplifying and driving cloud adoption.
  • Cost optimization on cloud.
  • Planning, installing, troubleshooting, and configuring large deployments of Windows Server, UNIX-based systems, and Hyper-V/VMware both on-premise and cloud.
  • Knowledge of systems backups, risk mitigation, and business continuity.
  • Technical skills for systems design and operations activities/tasks.
  • Knowledge of relevant banking policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines.
