Job Summary:

  • Reporting to the Director Medical Services, the role holder is responsible for providing expert medical care to infants, children, and adolescents, diagnosing and treating a wide range of pediatric conditions, and supporting preventive healthcare initiatives. The role involves managing complex cases, collaborating with other specialists, and mentoring junior medical staff and contributing to research and education in the field of Pediatrics.

Patient Care:

  • Conduct consultations, evaluations, and thorough assessments of pediatric patients
  • Diagnose and treat acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions in children
  • Prescribe and manage medications, therapies, and interventions tailored to each child’s needs
  • Perform and supervise procedures specific to pediatric care.
  • Monitor patients’ progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.

Preventive Care:

  • Provide guidance on childhood vaccinations, nutrition, growth, and development milestones.
  • Educate families on preventive care, early warning signs, and management of common pediatric illnes

Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Care:

  • Work closely with other specialists, such as surgeons, endocrinologists, and neonatologists, for integrated care.
  • Refer patients to other medical professionals or specialists when required

Emergency Care:

  • Respond to pediatric emergencies, stabilize patients, and manage critical care cases.

Requirements:

  • Master of Medicine in General Surgery or its equivalent, with sub-specialty training in Pediatrics recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council.
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from an institution recognized by Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
  • Served for a minimum period of five (5) years relevant work, three (3) of which should have been in administrative position
  • Valid Practice License from the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council
