Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level will be responsible for:
- Fire Fighting or Fire Prevention and Protection Operations within his jurisdiction including planning organization of duties;
- Maintenance and accounting for equipment;
- Control of staff under him including discipline and overall service administration within his area of jurisdiction;
- Operational and administrative control of all activities for Fire Fighting or fire prevention services of his unit including training of his crew of firemen;
- Inspection of appliance and equipment;
- Implementation of unit’s order and instructions;
- Efficient operation of firefighting appliances and equipment;
- Inspection of buildings to assess fire hazards and risks;
- Ensuring soundness and adequacy of means of escape;
- Writing fire reports;
- Conducting fire demonstrations, demonstrations drills and lectures;
- Plan of fire evacuation orders;
- Performing fire investigation;
- Maintenance of firefighting and/or fire prevention records; and
- Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
For appointment to this grade, an officer must:
- Have Diploma in Fire Prevention and Protection Services from a recognized Fire Services Training Institution;
- Have served in the position of Assistant Fire Officer Grade 5/6 or in a comparable and relevant position;
- Have acquired sound technical and administrative knowledge in Fire Fighting and or Fire Prevention and Protection matters;
- Have shown competence and ability in organizing and running Fire Fighting and/ or Fire Protection Services within his/her jurisdiction; and
- Have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
