Mechanical Technician

  • To ensure availability, reliability and efficiency of plant, equipment, utilities and building facilities in terms of all mechanical functions for optimum operations of the feed-mill

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out preventive maintenance of machines according to established procedures to ensure smooth operations
  • Read and interpret electrical blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications to determine wiring layouts and installation procedures.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical equipment (pumps, mixers, mills, BE, conveyors, etc.) and machine failures through inspection and testing, prescribing corrective action, and restoring functionality
  • Log details of work performed for tracking, future planning, and historical records
  • Facilitate installation of machines as is required by the organization to ensure smooth running of operations.
  • Perform service and maintenance on the machines and relevant equipment and report the findings to the line manager.
  • Conduct frequent checks on the job sites for potential hazards to ensure safety while working
  • Perform and/or assist with construction and repair work and operates construction equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all matters pertaining to machines and their maintenance as is required by the organization.
  • Undertake reactive maintenance of the plant and all the machines to reduce the instances of machine failure or inefficiency thereby enabling efficient work-flow in the organization.
  • Work with the maintenance team leader in ensuring that spare parts are documented and new ones ordered on need basis.
  • Optimizing mechanical efficiency by adjusting machinery and equipment settings.
  • Training co-workers on the safe and efficient use of mechanical machinery and equipment.
  • Maintaining a tidy work environment and adhering to industry regulations.
  • Ensure mechanical operations, standards and controls are maintained at high quality.
  • Resolve motor, pump, conveyor, mill, presses, bucket elevators and hydraulic problems.
  • Comply with company safety guidelines and procedures and operate within OSHA provisions.
  • Set up and operate production equipment in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and set
  • standard operating procedures
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and implement solutions to minimize downtime and improve machine reliability.
  • Responsible for shift operations
  • Maintaining a tidy work environment and adhering to industry regulations.
  • Ensure mechanical operations, standards and controls are maintained at high quality.
  • Resolve motor, pump, conveyor, mill, presses, bucket elevators and hydraulic problems.
  • Comply with company safety guidelines and procedures and operate within OSHA provisions.

Main Interfaces:

  • INTERNAL: Maintenance Team,
  • EXTERNAL: Production and other Factory departments; Service suppliers

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Must be conversant with feed-milling machines or bulk materials handling and processing in terms of maintenance, repair and overhaul.
  • Holder of Higher Diploma/Diploma in mechanical engineering or mechatronic engineering from a reputable institution,
  • Conversant with computer use – use of all the computer packages and many more.
  • Over 5 years of sound continuous and detailed experience in manufacturing relative to mechanical engineering maintenance functions to the required standards.
  • Conversant with Air compressors, boilers, Emergency power generators, mixer, conveyors, Mills, bucket elevators, pumps and piping system, heating systems, process cooling systems, water supply and treatment systems,
