We are looking for a detail-oriented and highly organized Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Department. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will support the finance team in managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reconciliations, and compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Sage ERP preferred) and Microsoft Office (Excel).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- High integrity, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Competencies
- Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports.
- Process and maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable.
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure timely posting of journal entries into the accounting system.
- Monitor company expenses and support cost-control initiatives.
- Support tax filing processes (VAT, PAYE, withholding tax).
- Prepare supplier reconciliations and follow up on outstanding issues.
- Assist in inventory accounting and participate in physical stock counts.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of all financial records.
- Monitor petty cash usage and prepare replenishment reports.
- Provide audit support by preparing schedules and documentation.
- Participate in budget preparation and cash flow forecasting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting systems and procedures.
