Kisumu Specialists Hospital invites applications from qualified, experienced, and passionate individuals to fill the position of Cook.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook balanced, nutritious meals for patients, staff, and visitors according to daily menus and dietary requirements.
- Follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines to maintain consistency and reduce wastage.
- Collaborate with nutritionists or dieticians to prepare meals that meet specific dietary restrictions.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and rotation of food to prevent spoilage and contamination.
- Assist in receiving, checking, and storing deliveries to ensure quality and safety.
- Coordinate with fellow cooks, kitchen assistants, nutritionists, and other staff to ensure smooth meal service.
- Assist in serving food in patient wards, staff canteen, or designated service areas.
- Adhere to all relevant hospital policies, safety standards, and statutory food regulations.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- At least 3 years of work experience as a cook, preferably in a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Certificate in Food Production or related field from a recognized institution.
- Knowledge of dietary requirements and ability to prepare nutritious, balanced meals tailored to patients and staff.
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene standards, and infection control measures in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with nutritionists, nurses, and other staff.
- Flexibility to work on shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- Commitment to patient-centered service and professionalism.
- Terms of Engagement: 2-year contract, renewable
