We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Endoscopy Nurse to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide specialized care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures, ensure safe handling of equipment, and support the medical team in delivering high-quality care. This role requires strong clinical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Prepare patients physically and emotionally for endoscopy procedures, ensuring informed consent is obtained.
- Conduct pre-procedure assessments, monitor vital signs during procedures, and provide post-procedure care and discharge instructions.
- Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery, and follow-up care.
Clinical Duties
- Assist endoscopists during procedures (colonoscopy, gastroscopy, ERCP, bronchoscopy, etc.).
- Handle and maintain endoscopy equipment, ensuring functionality, calibration, cleaning, and safe use.
- Monitor patients and respond promptly to complications or emergencies.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care and procedures.
- Comply with infection prevention and hospital protocols.
Equipment & Environment
- Prepare and maintain sterile procedure rooms, ensuring readiness for procedures.
- Reprocess, disinfect, and sterilize endoscopy equipment per international and hospital standards.
- Manage inventory of supplies and request replenishments as needed.
Teamwork & Professionalism
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Mentor and guide junior nurses and nursing students.
- Participate in continuous professional development and hospital training.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
Key Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid nursing license and registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (preferred).
- Minimum 2–3 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in endoscopy, gastroenterology, or perioperative care preferred.
- Strong knowledge of infection prevention, patient safety, and emergency response in clinical settings.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centered approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for equipment management and documentation.
