Responsibilities
- Participate in intensive training on qualitative methods including focus group discussions (FGDs), pile sorting, seasonal calendars, and participatory rural appraisal (PRA) tools.
- Facilitate and document FGDs with diverse groups (e.g., mothers, grandmothers, fathers).
- Visit homes to learn and collaborate with caregivers to identify local, feasible complementary feeding solutions.
- Translate and transcribe interviews from Samburu, Kiswahili to English.
- Qualitative coding and analysis support.
- Maintain accurate field notes and ensure high-quality recordings.
- Ensure ethical standards in handling of participants and information.
- Work collaboratively with the team lead and transcription supervisor.
- Any other duties assigned by the Team leader or Supervisor
Qualifications and skills required:
- Minimum Diploma in Nutrition, Sociology, Anthropology, or related fields.
- Experience conducting in-depth interviews (IDIs), focus group discussions (FGDs), or key informant interviews (KIIs).
- Basic experience with qualitative coding frameworks (thematic, inductive, deductive).
- Ability to work systematically and follow coding guidelines.
- Fluent in English, Kiswahili, and the local Samburu dialect.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to translate accurately and contextually, while considering cultural nuances.
- Familiarity with transcription software is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated understanding of cultural sensitivity and respect for local norms.
- Willingness to learn local solutions from families.
- Familiarity with qualitative analysis software (NVivo, Atlas.ti, Dedoose) preferred.
- Prior research or fieldwork experience in maternal and child health, nutrition, or community-based studies is an added asset.
- Must be fully available during the training and fieldwork periods.
- Preference will be given to individuals from Samburu County.
