  • The project aims to provide support to media and civil society to improve civic education amongst the public on inclusive governance and women’s role in public life.

Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Support the country manager in all administrative, logistical and financial procedures and processes regarding the implementation of JHR’s activities.
  • Act as a liaison between the Country Manager, JHR’s consultant and direct project stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships between civil society organizations, media, advocacy networks and state departments.
  • Coordinate capacity strengthening initiatives, such as training sessions for media, civil society, government departments on advocacy, human rights-based approaches to service delivery and inclusive practices.
  • Prepare the monthly internal reports to be submitted to the Country Manager on achievements, projects, problems encountered, pertinent developments, and strategic needs.
  • Scan required data and information in collaboration with local partners on human rights, gender equality and press freedom in Nairobi.
  • Attend periodic check-in with the country manager and the project management team to provide updates and request support if needed.
  • Draft contract agreements for JHR’s consultants in collaboration with the country manager.
  • Support the process of preparing work plans, including providing support to national partners as directed by the country manager.
  • Prepare and submit weekly reports on media coverage on governance, with a focus on gender equality.
  • Support the project specific social media and online platforms in compliance with the project communication strategy and the workplans
  • Ensure all M&E documents are organized, digitized, and submitted monthly in line with the Performance Measurement Framework requirements.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, communication or media studies, development, human rights or a relevant field of study.

Experience & Skills:

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in project coordination or management, preferably with minority communities, media advocacy, or social justice projects
  • Demonstrated contextual understanding of human rights issues and sensitivities in Kenya and Uganda, with experience working with minority led human rights organizations
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and sustain community and stakeholder relationships
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili. Fluency in French is an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and time-management skills
  • Familiar with consultancy agreements and contractual relations with external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with narrative and/or financial reporting is a strong asset.
  • Experience developing and delivering training or capacity-building initiatives around inclusion and diversity
  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively in diverse, multidisciplinary teams and adapt to changing circumstances
