JOB OVERVIEW:
The Legal Aid and Governance Manager is responsible for managing legal aid and advocacy programs within the organisation. The incumbent will oversee the day to day running of the legal aid clinics, supervise and provide leadership to a team of lawyers. The incumbent will also spearhead provision of timely, effective and quality protection responses to forcibly displaced and host populations. The role entails capacity building of stakeholders, advocating for the development and implementation of inclusive laws, policies, and systems for displaced and host populations and ensuring that the organization adheres to internal and external governance standards. The role requires a combination of legal expertise, leadership, and organizational skills to ensure efficient and effective operations.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Education:
- Master's Degree: Specialized master's programs in humanitarian action or international law/Refugee Law and Protection
- A Law degree (LLB) from an accredited institution.
- Admission to practice to the bar upon undertaking the Advocates Training Programme at the
- Kenya School of Law.
- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in legal, governance, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of the Kenyan legal system and of Regional & International instruments on refugee law and human rights.
- Proven experience in project design and implementing legal aid and/or advocacy programmes.
- Strong knowledge of legal frameworks, governance structures, and risk management principles.
- NGO/Humanitarian field experience is preferred.

- Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to compliance and ethical standards.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience in a leadership or managerial role.
- Knowledge of non-profit governance and legal aid regulations.
- Experience working with an NGO/Humanitarian field is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with relevant software tools for case management and reporting.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Contract on Renewable terms (subject to performance)
- Probation period -up to 6 months
- Medical cover and pension benefits after completion of probation period.
- Full-time position with occasional field travel required
- Flexible working hours may be available in accordance to RCK HR Manual and policies.
