Role Overview
The Chief of Staff provides strategic and operational support to the CEO by coordinating organisational priorities, ensuring cross functional alignment, and enhancing executive decision making. The role drives execution of CEO level initiatives, manages executive office workflows, and strengthens leadership communication across the institution. The position ensures that strategic objectives are translated into actionable plans, monitors progress, and supports executive level stakeholder engagement. The Chief of Staff acts as a trusted advisor, sounding board, and integrator who enhances the effectiveness and productivity of the CEO and senior leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Support and Strategic Alignment
- Coordinate CEO priorities and ensure alignment across departments
- Translate strategic objectives into structured workplans and execution timelines
- Prepare briefing notes, dashboards, and decision papers for the CEO
- Ensure follow through and accountability on CEO directives
Cross Functional Coordination
- Facilitate collaboration between senior leaders on shared initiatives
- Remove bottlenecks affecting organisational execution
- Support planning and delivery of leadership meetings and retreats
- Ensure consistency of organisational messaging and expectations
Project and Initiative Management
- Lead special projects assigned by the CEO
- Monitor progress on transformation, growth, and efficiency programmes
- Establish tracking mechanisms for strategic initiatives
- Report outcomes and risk flags to CEO and Executive Committee
Stakeholder and Communication Management
- Coordinate internal communication from the CEO to the organisation
- Manage relationships with key partners, regulators, and external stakeholders as delegated • Prepare speaking notes, presentations, and engagement materials
- Ensure confidentiality and professional handling of sensitive information
Leadership Decision Support
- Conduct research, analysis, and comparative insights to support CEO decision making
- Provide scenario evaluation and recommendation summaries
- Support board reporting preparation and governance documentation
Executive Office Efficiency
- Streamline workflows, meeting cadence, and information flow for the CEO
- Oversee Executive Assistant and related support functions where applicable
- Ensure disciplined agenda management, preparation, and follow through
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Strategy, Economics, Management, or related field
- Master’s degree preferred (MBA, Strategic Management, Public Policy)
Experience
- Minimum of 8–10 years professional experience
- At least 3–5 years supporting senior executives or leading cross functional initiatives
- Experience in financial services, microfinance, banking, or regulated environments is an advantage
